
Lecturer
Dr. Danny Nyatuka is a distinguished scholar in Information Systems, ICT for Development (ICT4D), digital health, and global health security based in Kenya. He holds a PhD in ICT from the Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT) and is a faculty member at the School of Computing and Engineering Sciences (SECS), Strathmore University, where he also serves as a Principal Investigator leading digital health research initiatives.
His research focuses on leveraging frugal digital innovations and people-centered design approaches to address complex healthcare challenges in resource-constrained settings across Africa. His expertise spans ICT4D, IS4D, health informatics, IT project management, information systems modeling and design, participatory research, service design, frugal innovation, and decolonizing methodologies, all aimed at developing contextually relevant, inclusive, and sustainable digital solutions for underserved communities.
Dr. Nyatuka has led and contributed to research projects funded by internationally recognized organizations, including the Royal Academy of Engineering, the World Health Organization (WHO), and the AKTO Academy of Frugal Innovation. He is actively engaged in teaching and mentoring at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, delivering courses such as Software Engineering, Systems Analysis and Design, IT Project Management, Digital Marketing, and Emerging Technologies.
He is a co-founder of the AHEAD Innovation Hub, a multidisciplinary innovation platform that applies emerging technologies and AI across key sectors including Agriculture, Healthcare, Environmental sustainability, Assistive education technologies, and Digital public infrastructure. Within this ecosystem, he leads the Digital Health Innovation Hub, focusing on research translation and real-world implementation.
Dr. Nyatuka maintains active international collaborations through the Africa International Collaboration (AIC) research network, a North–South partnership involving institutions across the United Kingdom and Africa. He continues to advance academia–industry partnerships through the AHEAD Innovation Hub, working closely with government and private sector stakeholders.
He is committed to advancing ethical, inclusive, and impactful digital transformation through research, innovation, and mentorship that empowers underserved populations in Africa and beyond.
