While Artificial Intelligence, predictive analytics, and generative AI offer immense potential for global health, a significant skills gap prevents frontline clinicians in Low- and Middle-Income Countries (LMICs) from safely adopting these tools.
Rather than moving clinicians away from their clinics for costly training, our partnership operationalizes the Project ECHO philosophy: moving knowledge, not people. The Strathmore AHEAD Hub will act as an AI Center of Excellence (“Hub”), connecting multidisciplinary teams-AI scientists, clinical informaticists, ethicists, and master clinicians-with healthcare workers (“Spokes”) in primary healthcare facilities (PHFs) across the region.
The AI-ECHO telementoring curriculum takes clinicians from basic AI awareness to routine, ethical clinical application:
Predictive Analytics (PA):
Training clinicians to interpret risk scores and risk-stratify high-burden conditions such as TB, HIV, hypertension, and diabetes, while addressing algorithmic bias in local contexts.
Upskilling teams in prompt engineering for clinical documentation, patient discharge instructions adapted to local literacy levels, and diagnostic decision support.
Enforcing data privacy, protecting patient confidentiality, and maintaining human-in-the-loop clinical judgment.
Using the iECHO management platform and interactive videoconferencing, each weekly clinic runs on a structured, case-based framework:
